From their farm in the Scottish Borders, the Allans grow potatoes, spring beans, winter wheat, spring barley, oilseed rape and asparagus. As a modern agricultural business, they are constantly striving to reduce their environmental impact. To achieve this they have reserved small woodland areas throughout the farm and are constantly monitoring and protecting wetlands to encourage and protect local wildlife. They also continue to carefully manage their water supply, and have seen a 50% reduction in water used for potatoes through the use of irrigation tape. This in turn reduces the amount of diesel needed to pump the water across their fields and therefore reduces CO2 emissions.
