At Albert Bartlett, we are committed to educating the next generation about healthy living, with our initiatives ranging from children’s books to cooking and marketing-related competitions. We’re also proud to support a mix of local and national activities and individuals, ranging from community football teams to up-and-coming sports enthusiasts.
When Sammy Met Sally
‘When Sammy met Sally’ is a children’s storybook designed to educate youngsters about healthy eating in a fun – filled way. Since it was first published in 2007, it has been distributed to nurseries and preschools throughout Scotland and Northern Ireland in partnership with healthy living schemes. In 2011 we launched a second book ‘Sammy & Sally Grow Together’, which teaches children about growing their own fresh produce.
Glasgow Caledonian University Professor’s Challenge
For the past two years, we have supported the Glasgow Caledonian Club Professor’s Challenge. The club works with children and young adults from nurseries, primary and secondary schools in the community to instil life-long learning aspirations and skills. We set school pupils from Glasgow-based schools a real-life marketing challenge.
Pupils get the chance to research and then present their ideas to a panel of judges. We had great fun with the pupils, and they taught us a thing or two about marketing!
In the community
Edinburgh Cyrenians is an independent Scottish charity which helps find solutions to problems faced by people in our society such as homelessness, poverty and recovery from addiction. The charity also has a great environmental belief and set up Cyrenians Farm – a small community enterprise located just outside Edinburgh. As well as growing organic fruit and vegetables and cultivating livestock, lambs and chickens, the Farm is also home to a community of vulnerable young people, many of whom have been homeless.
We work closely with both areas of Cyrenians, donating produce and helping to raise money for their events. In 2011, we donated a John Deere tractor to the farm project to help with the farm work. This is helping the Farm to progress into efficient production and provides new opportunities for training and experiences with the residents.

Airdrie Youth Development Pathway
We are proud sponsors of the ‘Airdrie Youth Development Pathway’ through Airdrie United FC. The sponsorship is a great way to educate young footballers about healthy living. We’ve used our knowledge about food and healthy lifestyles to create a ‘healthy eating plan’ for the players.
The Cheltenham Festival
The Cheltenham Festival is a celebrated event in the National Hunt racing calendar, with the race prize money second only to the Grand National. Being held close to Saint Patrick’s Day, its timing echoes the Irish heritage of our famous Rooster potatoes. We are proud to sponsor the Novice Hurdle Series.
The Clarke Brothers: From Airdrie to the Royal Ballet
We like to work with individuals who show promise and dedication to sport and the arts, and the Clarke brothers do just that. The brothers; Ross, Reece, Ryan and Russell have made an awe-inspiring journey from local dancing classes to performing in front of thousands at the Royal Opera House in London. Ross teaches dance and guest performs through America, but will graduate in 2013 with a Masters Degree in Psychology. Russell also teaches and performs dance in Arizona. Ryan and Reece are second and first year pupils respectively, at the Royal Ballet Upper School. During the summer of 2012 Reece got voted the ‘Best Young Classical Dancer in Britain’ which is a wonderful achievement and we are proud to support them all on their journey to success.
